History of Quadrajet Power LLC

Pull up a chair and hear our story. Our family business has deep roots.

Back in the 70s, when you could look in the classified ads in the paper to find a Z28 for a couple thousand, we were driving and drag racing everything we could find. You name it: GTO, Corvette, Camaro, Monte Carlo, Impala, Chevy II, Nova, Cutlass, El Camino, pickups, and the list goes on. Everybody swapped out their Quadrajet for a Holley because it was the thing to do. Like most, we went to the track with our Holley-topped big-block Camaro.

We went around the NHRA Division 4 circuit for a while, and it was fascinating to watch the stock class. These heavy cars and station wagons lifted the front tires off the ground and flew down the track. With a “stock” engine and Quadrajet, these cars were able to get every available horsepower and fraction of a second from their ET.

It was not an easy crowd to learn from, but friends were made and many secrets were learned. Later that year, the Camaro was a full second faster in the quarter mile, lifting the tires and winning championships with a Quadrajet.

Then other people wanted us to build one for them. Through the years, off and on, carburetors were rebuilt for friends and family and at the shops where we worked. It was a fun hobby, and life went on.

Then came the 2000s, when you could go online and find a Z28 for $25,000 that still needed a trailer and shovel to load it—and another $75,000 to restore it. We found a Buick GS to take to the track with our son driving it. The 455 was dead-on consistent with the Quadrajet, and he took home a check almost every weekend.

People started finding us again and word spread online, so the hobby continued as we custom-built Quadrajets for friends all over the world to enjoy on the street and at the track.

In 2015, we decided to go big or go home. We wanted to take the business further and become the only Quadrajet shop anyone in the world would need. The plans came together after a great deal of thought, equipment, parts, supplies, time, and investment.

Our decision was to do everything right, the best way we could. We wanted to build every Quadrajet correctly and fully with new parts—no testing old parts and reusing them just because they tested well. Old parts go in the recycle bin. Every Quadrajet that leaves our shop is built with the best parts we can find today and tested for proper operation before it ships.

Every carburetor is custom-built for its application, whether it will sit on the correct original engine in a daily driver, a restored beauty, or a car flying down the track.

That brings us to today. Our small shop is in the Texas Hill Country, and our staff is our family—real family. We are all involved in the day-to-day operation of this growing business.
